"Staff were attentive, supportive and friendly"

About: Victoria Hospital / Day surgery

(as the patient),

I arrived to Day Surgery wing of Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy for 8am and after a short wait, I was admitted to the ward by receptionist. Shown to a bed in a bright, clean open ward by welcoming nursing staff. Staff were attentive, supportive and friendly throughout time waiting on ward and they kept me informed with regards to wait times, processes and expectations for my visit. Ward nurses were conversational and approachable throughout and helped to create a relaxed and settling environment. Theatre Nurse Shona took time to discuss my procedure and made sure I had the opportunity to answer any questions I may have had. She introduced Dr Murrills, who was performing my procedure. Having already had a conversation with Dr Murrills on the phone the previous week, he revisited some of the information discussed and ensured I was still keen to proceed, before once again offering the opportunity to answer any questions I may have had. Shortly afterwards, I was taken in to theatre, where staff introduced themselves and I was made to feel welcome and comfortable. Staff encouraged me to choose the theatre background music, again to ensure the process was as comfortable as possible. The procedure was carried out under local anaesthetic and both Shona, Dr Murrills and other staff took the time to explain what they were doing all the way through. Shona made conversation throughout the process to encourage my sole focus was not on the procedure. Throughout the process, I felt no pain or discomfort, though some may find the initial anaesthetic injection uncomfortable. I could feel the sensation of work being done internally, however no pain or discomfort was felt. Following a successful procedure, Dr Murrills was happy to answer questions and discuss anything in further detail. Following an hour of bed rest and an hour spent chatting with Nursing staff, fellow patients and sampling the hospitals finest Gluten Free biscuits with a cup of tea, I was free to go. Overall, I experienced an excellent level of professional, personal and caring service.
