"no compassion"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Cardiology (Ward 4)

(as a parent/guardian),

As a nurse I fully understand the pressures the NHS are under . However where has human compassion and decency gone . This morning I’m sitting in Ravenscraig cardiology suite , my daughter is currently having an echocardiogram and instead of having me with her as she wanted I , again , have been curtly reprimanded and left in the waiting area . Why ? My little daughter who has only just left school , happens to be 18 .In my Opinion this is bureaucracy and legalism at its worst . The same happened over the weekend following a collapse and a major cardiac issue we were forced to endure our panicked and crying daughter be hauled away by strangers while shouting for us,  What is wrong with people ? It’s not just the rule keeping in excess it’s the manner of delivery . This morning I was told patients only wait there  and curtly pointed back to the waiting area . Somewhere I may add we sat alone in while all members of staff visibly had their morning coffee before my daughter was taken 10minutes after her appointment time . I too have a shift to start and while I can understand clinics running on and over this was not that .

Waiting times cannot be helped neither can the pressures of a Covid burdened and burnt out work force, but I feel a bit kindness and compassion are free as is manners . I’ve never made a complaint before not once but this has frankly disgusted me . My scared wee girl was neither supported nor reassured .. nor were we given even a cursory someone will be in touch via letter or whatever she was told to get dress and go- I'm not happy.

Good afternoon castorjx76

I am so sorry to read your disturbing feedback on the care, treatment and lack of communication you and your daughter have experienced recently when in ward 4 (cardiology) within University Hospital Wishaw.

This is certainly not the treatment we would condone for patients.

May I request you contact my Patient Affairs colleagues to allow for investigation, reflection and learning.

Please contact via email: PatientAffairs.Wishaw@lanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk or by telephone: 01698 366558

Again, please accept my apologies and I hope your daughter is recovering well.

Kind regards

Jean
