"Post Natal complications"

About: General practices in Lothian Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / Maternity care St John's Hospital / Gynaecology St John's Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

I had a baby with a forceps delivery last year at Edinburgh Royal. After being unsure for a while and not getting the correct help I finally insisted my doctors see me to determine if I had any issues. It turns out I have a prolapse, which the doctor had told me is highly common with force deliveries and internal stitches (which I had both).  What type and severity and treatment- I still do not know as after nearly 7 weeks I have only received a letter of referral and to contact the physio myself. I could have used this help over a year ago and post labour I didn't have any of this information and was left discharged without any knowledge of issues that may follow. I am really disappointed in the aftercare and the lack of care and support post pregnancy is unacceptable and needs to change.

My 12 week GP didn't even include an examination which I feel would have helped determine what issues I had earlier post partum.

Dear Mbmtt

Thank you for sharing your story with us via Care Opinion. I would like to sincerely apologise for the delay in acknowledging this.

I am really sorry to hear that you have been experiencing issues after giving birth last year, and that you have had such difficulty getting help with this. It is disappointing that you were not given enough information on discharge. This must be a very distressing time for you.

I can assure you that this will be shared with the relevant Clinical Management Team who will really appreciate this feedback. They will be able to use this to review the information given to patients on discharge and the aftercare process.

I would like to apologise again for your poor experience. I hope that you soon receive the appropriate help and treatment. If you would like any of your concerns investigated further, please contact the Patient Experience Team. This can be done by sending an email to feedback@nhslothian.scot.nhs.uk or if you would prefer to call, our number is 0131 536 3370. Our lines are open Monday to Friday 9am to 2pm.

Thank you again for taking the time to share your feedback with us via Care Opinion.

Best wishes

Louise
