About: Whitworth Medical Centre

It's ridiculous trying to get anything from the surgery. I have to go through my IBD nurses at Fairfield hospital in order to have my bloods checked everything 3 months in order to receive my medication for my bowel disease. They send the blood cards in the post then I go to Rochdale infirmary to have them taken. I used to have them done at WMC but sit on the phone for up to 40 minutes to be told the nurse has no appointments. You then get told to ring back the next week and nobody answers the phone. I then have the company who supplies my medication which I have to inject every 2 weeks refusing to send me the next 3 months supply because I haven't had my bloods monitored. I tried to book my COVID vaccination when they first became available because I take an immune suppression drug due to my bowel disease and was told from WMC I wasn't entitled to it because I was in a much lower risk group. I got in touch the next day with my consultant at Fairfield hospital and they arranged it for me the next day. I had it weeks too late. Same with the flu jab, same care free attitude from WMC so I went to boots and had that straight away. I didn't have to pay as I'm entitled to have it free off charge because off my medical condition. Boots knew this after looking on there system so why didn't my own doctors. Anyways last week I received a text message from Whitworth medical centre informing me I neede to take additional vitamin D suppliments and they had done a prescription for me. I've been talking ng additional vitamin D since January when I received a letter from the hospital department which had copied the surgery into. The last time I had my bloods taken at the doctor's the nurse said she didn't know what to mark on the blood cards so I had to come back home and take up an handful off letters I receive when I go for check ups at the hospital. I have had this illness for over 12 years and they didn't know why I needed them checked. Finally wouldn't it make sense to give me 4 appointments on a appointment card 3 months apart so it would last me a whole year .

Dear Mr Priestley, Thank you for your feedback on on our website. I am sorry to hear you have had difficulties with your required appointments for bloods, in order to obtain your injectable medication. We do as a practice provide a HCA for 14 sessions per week and we also now have the use of the Rossendale Hub which have recently added on clinics for our practice for blood tests. There are also walk in clinics at the Royal Blackburn hospital. I have tried to call you today to discuss, I have also sent you a text message to contact me via email in order for your concerns to be resolved. Please contact me on s.smith2@nhs.net so we can discuss further.

Regards Miss Sharon Smith - Practice Manager
