My son was involved in a head on severe car crash . The car was a write-off. Police attended scene and off duty paramedic, both very helpful. After half an hour and ambulance not dispatched, my son was told to go in car with wife. When he attended staff were shown photo of car he had just been taken out of, but seemed disinterested. He was put on chair to wait in waiting room. After half an hour he felt very unwell, colour pale, chest really sore and complained of more chest pain. I approached desk and told reception this, I advised I was nurse and very concerned that he may have had internal injuries. I was told he would have to wait his turn. I asked could he have a bed they repeated wait his turn. 4 patients later he was called. The nurse tried to take his blood pressure over his coat, had to ask them to take it off and do it properly to get a reading
As a healthcare professional I found this not acceptable. As a mum I thought I was going to lose my son. Something needs to be put in place to prevent this happening to someone who might not be as lucky as my son to come through something like this.
"I was very concerned"
