"Wards 63 & 65 not catering to soft diets"

About: Glasgow Royal Infirmary / General Surgery (wards 64, 65, 66,& 67)

(as a volunteer/advocate),

Advocate for patient.

Admitted to Ward 49 mid June then the following day transferred to Ward 65

Unable to tolerate any diet and fluid intake very poor.

After a week transferred to Ward 63.

Throughout this time no consideration was taken by medical staff regarding calorific intake, despite advising medical team, response was if you don't feel like it dont force it.  Meal options do not cater for bland soft diets. Very rarely were there sandwiches, jelly's or baked potatoes - depended what end of the Ward they started. Physical health declined, and still did  address this issues. Mental health began to decline. I finally as their advocate telephoned and requested that this was addressed asap with at least fortified drinks and meal replacement options eg Ensure. This was put in place the following day some 12 days after admission

The body can not fight inflammation or heal with  food, vitamins and nutrients. This is not an acceptable response from a service that has a duty of care to their patients.
