"Rehabilitation at home"

About: Bellshill Locality Support Service / Muirpark (Short Term Rehab)

(as the patient),

Following a fall at home in March where I suffered a spiral fracture of my left femur.  I had a nail inserted to repair it . Post op I developed an aspiration pneumonia, unstable diabetes , all of which lengthened the recovery process.   After 6 weeks I was discharged to continue with a care package at home which was arranged by the ward .

I was attended at home by community rehabilitation service ( Wishaw area).   At first I did not welcome the carers as I found it hard to take in the fact that I needed their help.  They were excellent and of a high standard. It was greatly appreciated by me and I cannot praise them enough.  Thank you ladies and gentlemen .

On the physio at home , I had a lady attend me  by the name of Freida. I was not at all looking forward to this as I knew it meant facing up to the fact that I had to get up and moving and just work through the pain. At this time my mood was very low as I felt that I wasn’t progressing quick enough . Having worked as a staff nurse for 30 yrs , I was familiar with post op recovery and was aware that I was behind with mine. My mobility was slow due to the added fact that I had suffered from bilateral depressed fractures to both tibial plateaus in the distant past  which made walking very uncomfortable for me anyway .

The reassurance, comfort and encouragement I received from Freida was excellent.  I was given every aid available to help me in my recovery.  The time spent with me was fully concentrated on my mobility and making me independent once again. There are no words to express my gratitude to her and also the carers , every single one of them . Thank you for making these services available in our community. Thank you NHS 💓

Hi Nenie

I am really sorry to hear about your fall and challenging recovery but glad that you are now back home and becoming more independent again.

It is always great to hear about peoples experience of using our services as it helps us to continually improve them and make sure that people have the best experience and outcomes possible. It is also important to let staff know when they have really made a difference to peoples life's which is why your story is also so important.

The team, especially Freida, will be delighted with your feedback and we will make sure that it is passed on to all staff involved in your care. I hope that you continue in your recovery and reach you maximum independence again.

Best Wishes

Trudi
