"Crohns flare 5 hour wait for pain relief"

About: Macclesfield District General Hospital

Busy night in a and e. Crohns flare up was left waiting retching and in agony for 5 hours. Eventually nurse on triage got me some anti sickness and pain relief. Took 5 minutes!! Why can’t you have a pathway for known conditions like mine to see quickly and make more room for other patients. Waiting room was noisy people laughing and joking. I’m there in agony and retching for 5 hours. Only when lovely lady in triage room took my notes.down herself after I’d complained that things started to happen. Still took 2 hours after that to get pain relief. I have been to the hospital when it’s been busy. Taken straight to a cubicle cannula in and pain relief. All done in 20 minutes then staff are free to sort other patients out and I’m out of the way. Worst experience ever when I explained I was in severe pain to another nurse she replied there’s a four hour wait and there’s lots of people in pain. When I looked round most people were laughing and chatting. There were one or two who were quiet but the rest were up and down outside for a cigarette then chatting again. Your system needs revising and nursing staff need to understand how severe the pain is with a flare
