"Not being listened to"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / General Medicine (Wards 5 & 8)

(as a service user),

Firstly I was put in emergency care at the start of June, and then transferred to ward 8 the next day with swollen legs and lymph nodes swollen. I have few complaints!

I was left in the middle of the ward as there were no space for me, after being told there was space after been transferred from ward 6.  Then I got moved to a treatment room that was made up for me, no toilet, no shower, I had to constantly ask for towels etc.

I asked not to give me the painkillers as I was hallucinating with that particular drug.  I was continually sick with the sickness tablets I was given,  and antibiotics, which took 4 days to change, started attacking my kidneys. I wasn't given fresh water up until 5 days from going home.

I found my doctor very rude - came in, said a few words, and then walked away from me still talking as if they just didn't care.  I asked for an occupational therapist to come see me several times and also for the physio to come see me as I was left in the bed.  It made sense at the time as I was very breathless, but when I asked for physio to come I was just ignored and I didn't see one of them.  No way should I have been left in a bed for 16 days without anyone even trying to get me up.  I needed to walk to get the fluid flowing.

I do not blame the nursing staff at all as some of them tried their best for me, and the doctor was just not listening to them either. I do thank the nursing staff for everything they did do for me!
