I had a heart valve replacement in April 2022 at UHCW.I have worked in the NHS for 35 years ( never at UHCW I may add) and have an idea of what constitutes good service. Cardiothoracic surgery requires a huge team but the surgeons, doctors, nurses, ultrasonographers, healthcare assisstants I encountered were all first rate.
The whole journey from timely outpatients appointments, prehospital care, intensive care and ward care was provided by dedicated, diligent ,caring staff who work in such pressurised system. Sometimes you are concerned when you have care provided by different teams ( my heart surgery had to happen before further major surgery) that communication can be a problem but the communication between teams was seamless with consultants being on first name terms with those from other depts.Particular mentions go to my surgeon who visited me at least daily and the clinical nurse specialists who explained everything I asked them.I am now 3 months post op,with no complications and getting back to normal.
Thanks again cardiothoracic team for saving my life and doing it with care
"Magnificent."
