"Preparation for hip replacement"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Theatres, Recovery & Anaesthetics University Hospital Hairmyres / Trauma & Orthopaedics (Wards 1 & 5)

(as the patient),

I'm having a hip replacement in July at Hairmyres (HM) Hospital and had not been notified of any upcoming Joint Schools to help me prepare for surgery and beyond. I phoned the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery Nurses at HM without a prearranged appointment and spoke for some time with Emma (ERAS Nurse) who talked me through the pre and post op process taking account of my underlying medical conditions. Emma was so kind and considerate and nothing was a bother to her to explain. She was clearly a good listener as she never interrupted me nor made me feel rushed to ask questions. As a nurse myself of many years it is very different being a patient and Emma adjusted her explanations and terminology to my level of understanding. Emma provided me with contact details should I have forgotten to ask anything before my surgery date. I now feel very well informed of my pre and post op care thanks to Emma. Many thanks Emma.

Dear JC IPC

Thank you so much for taking the time to get in touch about your recent experience with University Hospital Hairmyres.

It is a great encouragement for staff to be recognised for their care and professionalism. Pleased to hear you feel informed and prepared for your upcoming hip replacement.

It will be a pleasure to share this feedback with the team, and especially the nursing staff you mention.

Wish you well for your surgery and in your recovery.

Thank you

Karen
