"Skin cancer removal and reconstruction"

(as a service user),

I was diagnosed with a basal cell carcinoma on my right cheek close to my eye and nose last year. I did have to wait seven months for treatment but finally got an appointment for early January for the skin cancer removal by Dr Hann and her team using MOHS surgery. This left a rather large hole in my face which then needed a skin graft.

Five weeks later I had a skin graft using skin from my neck performed by Mr Pinto and his team. Four months later I can't express how pleased I am with the results so far, and I am sure it will only get better over time. I cannot thank both Dr Hann and Mr Pinto and their teams enough. Everyone was so kind and professional and I have my face back!

I am sorry to hear of the wait that you experienced for the start of your treatment and can assure you that this is something that the Trust is working on. I am, however, very glad to hear that you have completed treatment and are happy with the results. It must be nice now that everything is healed and as you say, you have your face back.

I will ensure that your story is seen by the apporpriate staff in the Dermatology unit. I know that they will be delighted to receive such wonderful feedback.

My Apologies for not being in touch sooner.

Thank you for taking time to leave us feedback. I will ensure to pass on your comments to Dr Hann and Mr Pinto and their teams.

MOHs surgery is very specialised and unfortunately there is a wait for surgery as you know.

I am very glad you have not only had your MOHs surgery but also the repair with Mr Pinto, which we try to co-ordinate as quickly as possible when a repair needs to be done by our Max Fax team.

The dressings can make you very conscious about any wounds so I am very pleased we have managed to give you your face back and continue to heal well.
