"My mums treatment at MIU at Arbroath Infirmary"

About: Arbroath Infirmary / Minor Injuries

(as a relative),

My mum caught her leg on the car door yesterday afternoon. She’s 82 years old.

She called in a panic as she couldn’t stop it bleeding - she’s on blood thinners. She managed to drive round to the nearby hospital Arbroath Infirmary.  Firstly she was helped into the Minor Injuries by a passing Macmillan nurse Wendy  and then she was seen by Aileen - a nurse within the department.

I arrived quickly and I was allowed to sit in with my mum whilst she was being seen and her leg was dressed.

Aileen was kind, caring, attentive and reassuring to my mum and a huge asset to the service.

We hear so much negativity about the nursing profession and the NHS in general but what fabulous work goes on every day.  We are also incredibly lucky to have a local hospital who can provide prompt care and treatment for minor injuries.

Thank you Aileen (on behalf of my mum and myself)

Dear severityxp71

I’m so sorry to hear your mum injured her leg on a car door, and needed treatment in the Minor Injuries and Illness Unit (MIIU) in Arbroath Infirmary. This must have been very painful, and very frightening for her especially, when the wound was bleeding so heavily.

Aileen has been a nurse in the service for quite some time, and I completely agree with you she is a huge asset to the department. Her caring and professional manner would have ensured that your mum, would have received excellent treatment. We are extremely lucky in Angus that we have a minor injury service, and one that is staffed by highly qualified and compassionate nurses. Many of whom, have done further training, so we can offer a wide range of services locally.

I hope your mums leg is improving, and she feels much better today. Aileen and I, along with the rest of the nursing team, wish her a speedy recovery. We would also like to thank you for taking the time to post your story on care opinion. I will share your lovely comments with all the staff, and it will certainly help to boost morale, so thank you again.

Best wishes to both you and your mum.

Anne Black
