My sister, 71 years old, fit and healthy, never sick in her life, took a pain in her back which turned out to be metastasis from a primary tumour in her lung. It turned out there were several other tumours.
After the initial diagnosis the pain was very intense and morphine was commenced quickly. Our GP surgery doctors were very attentive, the pharmacy delivered her numerous medicines. Beds, chairs, mattresses were all delivered quickly.
Our community nurse, Sionagh, was an incredible support, very practical and knowledgeable.
During the nine months my sister lived with me there were many setbacks which were difficult to overcome. Sionagh was amazing. As my sister deteriorated she went far beyond the call of duty, calling several times a day. Her care, her manner, her empathy was exceptional. I will never forget her. I call her my best friend forever
