"A/E an accident waiting to happen"

About: University Hospital (Coventry)

Visited with chest pain at the entrance I was told to book in and wait Fortunately my daughter was with me eventually after about 2hrs I was triaged and the nurse went to speak to the consultant. An hour later my daughter went and asked if I could have an ECG, which I had

Finally after nearly 5 hrs I was transfer to the MAU a porter appeared with a trolley but no-one had come to explain what was happening. In the assessment unit I had a blood test and waited to see a doctor then waited again to see a consultant. I was discharge ten hours after my arrival as I had a had a blood test excluding a heart attack, my chest discomfort was ??? caused by asthma. It would appear that when presenting symptoms are not clear in depth follow up and advice is not given. Staff where very pleasant and worked hard in difficult circumstances but the whole system does not work and this has nothing to do with the clinical staff . Why are cases not sorted on triage and sent for necessary tests or other Departments to reduce waiting times. Going to the dept alone must be very difficult as little attention was given to the elderly in terms of reassurance or food and drink. These are management issues as well as training surely a hospital of this standing can do better than this. I attended A/E some years ago nothing has improved in fact it is worse. I hope review will make management review their practice.
