I was admitted to ward 5 with a serious bacterial infection after antibiotics course from GP failed to improve. On arrival a staff member recognised me from a mental health service and announced this to other staff in front of me, breaching my confidentiality. I have no current mental health concerns and used the service 3 years ago.
The care team then focused on this rather than my physical health problem. They denied I had this infection , refused to treat me with antibiotics, gave me one bag of fluids.
On the morning they discharged me, I awoke in a bed full of diarrhoea - information the night staff did not pass on. The senior doctor who came to see me I found to be extremely rude, suggesting I needed a psychiatry referral. When I questioned them it was clear they hadn’t read my notes to see the name of the infection I had. They said I was fit to be discharged even though I now had faecal incontinence, a catheter due to not being able to urinate and I couldn’t keep anything down. They suggested the infection was made up because I had previously 3 years ago had a mental health issue and I was fit to be discharged.
I left even though I could barely walk. I am at home in bed with a catheter and an infection still working it’s way around my body.
