I attended SARC on Monday morning with a problem that had got progressively worse since being diagnosed in December. When I came in I was in significant pain and thought I might have developed an abscess too. The registrar that reviewed me agreed I needed surgery and I was consented. Two hours later another registrar came to see me and said they weren't prepared to operate without having an MRI scan done. As the scan couldn't be done until the following day I was admitted to hospital. The day after having the scan, a surgeon came to see me and advised there was no infection, however I needed an operation to fix the problem and eradicate the pain - however it was not something they could do and I'd have to join a five month waiting list. I expressed concern about the pain, and not being able to sit down, but this made no difference and when I mentioned I'd had a quote to go private I got told that would be the best option! After a call to the Beaumont I got a quote, £5600 which I've no accepted and have a surgery date for early June. I can't really afford to pay this sort of money, but what else can you do when your in severe pain.
"Usually great but not this time"
