"food not hot"

About: Lurgan Hospital / Ward 2

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I came to lurgan about 2 and a half weeks ago. Through the ED which took about 1 hour or so. I haven’t really enjoyed the food here as I have received a few meals that have not been very warm and overall just not tasting great. I am obviously not expecting big things from hospital food but I would like a bit more variety. The nurses on the other hand are just amazing, they are so down to earth and caring. The cleaning staff are also brilliant they do a great job and they are all very lovely people. I feel as though we are up very early in the morning which can be exhausting throughout the day, especially when I don’t get much sleep at night and go to bed about 1am or so. I find myself continuously sleeping throughout the day which just makes me even more tired.

Thankyou for your welcomed feedback. I am sorry to hear that you are not enjoying your meals. The satisfaction of our patients with regards to meal provision and meal choices is very important. In regards to receiving meals that are not warm enough and when variety is restricted I would encourage patients to voice this at the time to the Nurse in charge at mealtimes.

I will share this information that you have kindly submitted to the catering department. In regards to having more variety - you are very much welcomed to ask your family to bring in fridge items that are ready to eat. The food items should be well dated and your name labelled on them. Food that has been prepared at home cold/or meals that can be heated are not allowed to be kept in hospital as there is a risk of Listeria.

I am pleased to hear of your satisfaction with the nursing and domestic staff. As sleep is so important to recovery - you have the choice to request not to get up to early - I would encourage you to voice your request to not get up early in the mornings with the nursing staff. I will share this information also with the nursing team.

I would like to wish you a speedy recovery.

If you would like to discuss further you are welcome to contact me on 07876545631

Thankyou
