"My experience"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Combined Assessment Unit (CAU) Crosshouse Hospital / High Dependency Unit Crosshouse Hospital / Stroke Care Crosshouse Hospital / Xrays & Scans General practices in Ayrshire & Arran Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service

(as a service user),

I had previously attended a local blood donation centre to provide a donation, this attempt did not go as smoothly as usual. I was left with severe bruising and two very sore arms. After consulting with the Doctor from Scot Blood I noticed that my left arm was loosing feeling as well as my left leg. They urged me to see my GP that day which I attended after finishing work. After the examination I was send to the CAU at Crosshouse to have this checked.  During this time I experienced every emotion, as I had expected to be checked over and sent home with a trapped nerve, feeling like I had wasted an already busy NHS with my minor issue.

I was admitted for further testing, which included lots of blood tests, CT, MRI and a Lumbar puncture. From the first interaction with staff, I was treated with respect, compassion and care beyond my expectations. I was scared, upset and really living in a state of unknown. Having gone from working full time to being in hospital was a huge adjustment. From the porters, domestics, auxiliaries, nurses, doctors and consultant, every member of staff was amazing. I knew I was in the best place to receive the care and tests I needed, even if I didn't really want to be there. Ward 3e and 3F was where I was placed. Between both wards, all the staff treated me amazingly. Their focus on person centred care was flawless, especially given the potential scenarios I was facing medically.  I was in hospital for 10 days in total. The doctor and his team are second to none.

Thank you so much for taking the time and trouble to share your lovely feedback. This must have been a very stressful, traumatic experience and it was great to hear that you felt so well supported by our teams at such a worrying time.

The staff will be thrilled to receive your kind comments and it will be really encouraging for them to know that their efforts to reassure you and provide person-centred care have been so well rewarded.

Wishing you all the very best for your ongoing recovery.

Linda
