"Staff all brilliant but some issues with the shower"

About: Daisy Hill Hospital / Elective Overnight Stay Centre/Gynaecology Ward Daisy Hill Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I was having difficulties with my chest so I came to Daisy Hill's Emergency Department. I encountered a very very long wait in A&E, so long in fact that I gave up and went home as nobody had seen me during this time and I couldn't wait any longer. I came back again later in the week as I needed to get it sorted and thankfully there wasn't as big of a queue. The staff in the Emergency Department were all good and very nice.

Following my time in A&E, I was transferred up to the Female Surgical Ward. My time up here has been overall quite good. All the staff have been very good - every one of them have been excellent in fact.

When it comes to the food - it has been what I would describe as reasonable - you would eat it if you were hungry.

The only issue I have had would be with the shower. When you turn it on the water goes absolutely everywhere and soaks everything in the vicinity - including your clothes. I think that this needs to be looked at as you really don't want soaking wet clothes when you are ill in hospital.

Other than this my stay has overall been good and I have no further suggestions for improvement.

Thank you for taking time to post feedback on Care Opinion. Feedback like this is great to share with Female Surgical staff. Feedback like this is greatly valued as staff can read how their care and interactions contribute to the patient experience. I am sorry that the shower did not work correctly and the water went everywhere! I will get our estates colleagues to check it out.

Regards

Josephine Matthews

Good morning

We apologise you had to wait so long. The emergency department (ED) like most other (EDs)has been experiencing problems with overcrowding in that when there are no admission beds, patients have to remain in ED for long periods of time until one becomes available. This reduces the available clinical space and causes lengthening of waiting times. We are relieved you returned and got assessed. We hope you are recovering well.

Best wishes

Paul

Good afternoon

Further to your very valuable feedback, I have recently checked and the shower is now working correctly.

Kind regards
