"My care"

About: North Devon District Hospital / Chemotherapy and Day Treatment Unit North Devon District Hospital / Urology

(as the patient),

Well I have had 6 weeks of mitomycin chemotherapy after being diagnosed with vaginal cancer.

I was originally referred for an ultrasound, there was a two week wait and when I attended the girl there found a mark on the bladder also, she rang Urology and they arranged for a further ultra sound for the kidneys too. This was between October and Christmas.

Feb went in for a procedure for the bowel. The consultant was very clinical told I had an aggressive tumour.

Following day I was told I could go home, I suppose they wanted people out as soon as possible due to Covid.

My husband picked me up, I could hardly stand up.

I then needed chemo liquid delivered straight into the bladder, the girls who did they were excellent. I was the problem, I couldn’t then get rid of it, I drank lots of water but that didn’t work so off to theatre again where they used a catheter to lose the remaining chemo. It was very sore but I want to say the girls were very nice and very kind.

Communication could be better

Dear doradosh96

Thank you for your feedback. May I apologise for the delay in replying but I have just returned from annual leave. I am sorry to read that you have been diagnosed with vaginal cancer needing chemotherapy treatment. I hope you are now recovering well from this. I am pleased you found the Nurses to be "excellent and kind" whilst delivering your bladder treatment. I will pass your feedback onto our Lead Nurse, Ansu Manoj.

I also apologise that you felt the communication could be better. We will endeavour to improve upon this in the future.

May I take this opportunity of wishing you well for any further treatment you may need at Barnstaple Hospital.

Kind regards

Paula
