"Amazing care for emergency c-section"

About: The Princess Royal Maternity Unit / Maternity care (wards 68, 72 &73)

(as a service user),

Being rushed into an emergency c-section after 2 days of (ultimately failed) induction due to fetal distress in the middle of a worldwide pandemic was... actually an amazing experience. And all thanks to the absolute angels in that operating theatre who worked their magic to bring my wee girl into this world.

They deliver multiple babies every single day. They must have delivered a good few hundred each, at least. Yet, when my baby was born it was as if it was the very first baby any of them had brought into life. Their passion, enthusiasm, and utmost joy for my baby, and their jobs, will stick with me for the rest of my life. I am forever grateful to every single one of them.

I had my EMCS at the PRM Glasgow in mid-May 2020 and gave birth to a wee girl.

The operation went really well (I didn't even realise I had lost more than a 'usual' amount of blood - everyone was so professional and calm) and I was home in just over 24hrs. Recovered really well and enjoyed the experience so much that I had another c-section earlier this year. Both girls are thriving thanks to our amazing NHS.

I was pretty high on drugs so the only name I remember is that of my anaesthetist who was called Kate. She was my hero and I am forever grateful to her for answering all of my questions about the procedure, the equipment, what was happening etc. Turns out all the drugs/anaesthesia make me super inquisitive but she didn't mind chatting me through it all. I'm still amazed by what I learned lying on that operating table!

Dear MlouW

Thanks you so much for taking the time and posting such lovely feedback following on from the birth of your baby daughter. The staff within labour ward and obstetric theatres in PRM take immense pride in personalising your care any will be delighted to learn that you felt supported and involved even though your daughters birth was maybe not have worked out the way you had first planned.

The pandemic was a hugely challenging time for new mums and families, especially when it resulted in them being separated from loved ones through a time you should be celebrating together with friends and family. I am delighted to hear that you felt your birth was amazing and I know the theatre team will too, especially Kate. I will be thrilled to pass this feedback on to Kate and the team and echo your sentiments that they are amazing too! I am aware so often they go above and beyond to ensure that everyone's birth experience is unique and special.

Thanks again for taking the time to feed back to us and I hope that you are enjoying this special time together as a new family, especially now as we are moving out of the pandemic which must have impacted on your baby daughters early days,

Kind regards,

Vicki Mazzoni
