Being rushed into an emergency c-section after 2 days of (ultimately failed) induction due to fetal distress in the middle of a worldwide pandemic was... actually an amazing experience. And all thanks to the absolute angels in that operating theatre who worked their magic to bring my wee girl into this world.
They deliver multiple babies every single day. They must have delivered a good few hundred each, at least. Yet, when my baby was born it was as if it was the very first baby any of them had brought into life. Their passion, enthusiasm, and utmost joy for my baby, and their jobs, will stick with me for the rest of my life. I am forever grateful to every single one of them.
I had my EMCS at the PRM Glasgow in mid-May 2020 and gave birth to a wee girl.
The operation went really well (I didn't even realise I had lost more than a 'usual' amount of blood - everyone was so professional and calm) and I was home in just over 24hrs. Recovered really well and enjoyed the experience so much that I had another c-section earlier this year. Both girls are thriving thanks to our amazing NHS.
I was pretty high on drugs so the only name I remember is that of my anaesthetist who was called Kate. She was my hero and I am forever grateful to her for answering all of my questions about the procedure, the equipment, what was happening etc. Turns out all the drugs/anaesthesia make me super inquisitive but she didn't mind chatting me through it all. I'm still amazed by what I learned lying on that operating table!
