I was found collapsed by a passer by outside my house in April and an ambulance was called. I was taken to A&E. I was seen by a doctor. They came in and sat down and looked at me and said you have POTS there is nothing we can do. I explained that the plan was if I was symptomatic to start me on fludocortisone. They said that their were no cardiologists on at the weekend.
I asked to speak to a senior doctor. They were just as unsympathetic. I warned that these collapses can happen frequently and it would be dangerous for me to be discharged home alone. They still discharged me. I asked to speak to the Nurse in charge and was told to see my GP on the Tuesday.
I was left to go out the department and my worst fears were confirmed when I collapsed at the front doors of the hospital and was found by an NHS worker. I was admitted to hospital and there was a cardiologist on duty. I was commenced on fludocortisone. I have never met such unsympathetic staff with no concern to my welfare being discharged home alone with a history of loss of consciousness.
