"Getting our information"

About: Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre

(as a service user),

Why in Scotland can't we access our own records? Why can't I see my own information on me online? This is what matters to me.

I see on England people can see their blood results for example. And renal patients in the Beatson can get their information.

The patient access app is no use for us.

I have blood cancer so detailed results are very important to me.

Thank you for getting in touch, we very much appreciate you taking the time to share your experience on this.

I can confirm that the NHS England app was developed to support NHS Trusts in England. NHS Scotland opted to take a slightly different, but also tailored approach, in how we best support health and care for the people in Scotland. Part of this approach has meant that this specific functionality is not yet available in Scotland.

However, the Scottish Government is well aware that citizens and staff are seeking technological solutions that enable easy access, save valuable time and support decision making. Therefore, I can confirm that as part of our current approach we are delivering the Digital Front Door, a programme which will support the rapid growth in the use of digital channels as well as help citizens access health and care services online.

This also acts as a direct response to the SNP Manifesto Commitment to develop a ‘myNHS’ app, albeit across health & social care as a whole. The programme is a key deliverable within our Digital Health & Care Strategy, published in October 2021. You can read more about this here - https://www.gov.scot/publications/scotlands-digital-health-care-strategy/pages/1/

While this work is at an early stage, I can also confirm that we are taking citizen’s accessibility to their own medical records very seriously. We anticipate that this approach will also allow citizen’s to access their own medical records and test results online.
