"Chaos after a 6 month wait"

About: University Hospital Of North Durham

My letter stated the precise time to arrive, who I’d see and where.

When I arrived it was chaos. Apparently there was NO face to face appointments and only telephone consultations.

Staff I encountered.

1 very efficient porter spraying hands and ordering patients in accordance with “policy”

There were 5 receptionists chatting and wondering what I was doing there.

7 nurses looking for something to do

8 patients

I was directed, not to cardiology but to Gastrointestinal Clinic to wait!

A very dishevelled, flustered unprepared consultant arrived to see me. His appearance was anything but professional

He didn’t have my notes and couldn’t access anything on line. I had to tell him my medical history.

After 6 months since my illness started surly most necessary tests would/should have been done but no, another two are needed.

I went to UHND reluctantly because my request to go to another hospital was refused by my GP. I will now be having a second opinion at another hospital.

In my 50 years of nursing, I have worked in outpatients department at several hospitals. Usually 5/6/7 clinics usually running late in organised chaos. This was by comparison unbelievably bad,

Covid was blamed, what rubbish. Hospital staff should be leading the way back to normality recovering from the pandemic

Overall UHND outpatients is a disorganised shambolic waste of time and NHS resources
