An elderly relative of mine was admitted to A and E in Treliske hospital Cornwall last week because he fell and broke his femur. He was taken to hospital at 4:00am. No one was allowed to go in the ambulance with him or meet him in A&E. The next day my cousin phoned and phoned to try and get an update but even when the phone was answered, it cut off.
Luckily a relative works at the hospital; at 10:00pm they located my uncle still in A&E. During the whole time he' been in hospital he had only had one drink, no food and when he rang for help to go to the toilet, no one came hence his clothes were wet with urine and he smelt too. He was very distressed.
How many other people is this happening to? Elderly people often need as much care as a baby would so why, when we are now having to live with covid, can't a relative accompany an elderly person and be their aide?
