"Signage and cafe"

About: Eastbourne District General Hospital

The Signage for the wards is very small, as is the signage to find your way out.

All reception areas in the entrance were shut/unmanned by 5pm

Bin of used masks overflowing

Cafe closed 2 hours early, and only took card payments (I only had cash), cant see why they shouldnt take cash

Other shop closed by 4.30, so could get anything from there

Had to walk to A and E to find a vending machine, drinks one broken so unable to get anything to drink, anywhere.

Very frustrating after you've had day surgery, cant find your way out easily, or get a drink!

Dear Steve,

Thank you for taking the time to leave some comments about the bins, signage and access to refreshments late in the day at Eastbourne District General Hospital (EDGH); whilst disappointing to read, we nevertheless appreciate your feedback. In response to your comments:

1. As you will appreciate, at the time of your feedback the wearing of face masks in hospitals was mandatory for everyone (apart from those with medical exemptions) and this meant we had high volumes of staff, patients and visitors disposing of face masks throughout each day. However, we will ask our Housekeeping Team to review their cleaning programme in case this needs to change to increase the frequency of waste checks.

2. The signage at EDGH has been in situ since before the outset of the COVID pandemic, and it's design included patient groups. However, we appreciate we will not always be able to satisfy everyone, and note your comments.

3. Lastly, we will ask our Estates and Facilities Team to review the situation with the availability of refreshments. We have at times experienced high volumes of patient/visitor activity which may have affected the performance and/or stock of vending machines, and decisions not to accept cash in our coffee shop and a change of opening hours would have been made as part of COVID management.

We hope you have, or are continuing to make, a good recovery from your day surgery. Take care Steve and keep safe and well.
