"Our labour experience was beautiful"

About: Maternity care / Midwife Led Unit

(as the patient),

I went into labour mid November 2019 and the care I received in the MLU was unlike any other care I’ve ever received.

When I went in, I was greeted by Midwife Kirsty and Student Midwife Megan. They set up a room for me and were so pleasant and friendly. I was really anxious as this was my first child and throughout the pregnancy, I was scared about labour from the day I found out I was pregnant but knew it was - obviously - an inevitable part of becoming a mum.

It was found that I wasn’t in active labour yet. Kirsty offered me to stay for a little while to see if things intensified or I could go home and relax. Thankfully I didn’t leave as I lived miles away and labour intensified quite quickly. I had went in late at nigh, labour intensified around midnight and our wee baby was here in the early morning. I was under the impression I’d be in labour for a long time due to this being our first child but our labour was smooth and very quick. I truly believe this was down to how comfortable Kirsty, Megan and team made us feel.

Around an hour after our wee one was born, Megan helped him latch on to me for a feed. Labour is something you’ll never forget but that’s something I will never forget as it was so special and Megan was so patient with me.

The next morning at shift change, Kirsty and Megan left and we were introduced to Robyn. Robyn was also amazing and provided the same level of care. The auxiliary who was on that day was also brilliant. She was popping in, having a laugh with us and also tried to make sure I could have something to eat being gluten free.

Every person I encountered on that ward showed myself, my partner and my mum nothing but kindness and the highest level of care, during what I thought would be the most stressful experience of my life. They made our labour experience a very positive one - even the woman who did my stitches. She was absolutely hilarious. There was also the midwife who was coming in and out checking on us and helping me with breastfeeding. Her expertise was so much more informative than any other source of breastfeeding support we got.

Thank you to the MLU for the amazing care you provided us with. I promised Robyn when I left that I’d leave good feedback for you all. You only hear negative feedback and people forget to leave their positive feedback. It may have taken two and a half years but we got there. Our labour experience was beautiful and it was down to the MLU on that night and the next day. Thank you all so much.

Dear Zebrant94,

Thank you for the feedback about the care you received in our Midwife Led Unit. I hope you and your family are all well.

It was lovely to hear that the care the team have provided, has been such a positive re-assuring experience for you. I will ensure the team members mentioned and the wider team are made aware of your positive birth experience during the birth of you baby.

We strive to constantly improve and/or develop our service. Patient feedback is valuable for us to achieve this service development/improvement. Thank you once again for taking the time to contact us.

Best Wishes

Pamela
