"My son required help and assessment by the crisis team"

About: Galavale House / Borders Addictions Service Huntlyburn House Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as a relative),

My son suffers with addiction problems which over the last few months have escalated and become even more difficult.

For my family and myself this has been unbearable and something none of us have had any experience of. He is getting help from We are With You but this help is very much geared towards the person engaging as as the addiction takes more of a hold the person stops engaging with everything and everyone. As a Healthcare Professional I fix things and help support I could not fix this and this was the hardest bit for me.

Things ended up in him having withdrawal psychosis and delusions where he was not making sense or able to make decisions, resulting in me having to call an ambulance  and seek help. He was admitted through A&E and from stepping through the doors I was grateful for the help he received from every professional in the building. He was assessed by the liaison team who along with the consultant made appropriate decisions around next steps.

He was admitted for in patient care which gave him a place for his body and brain to recover. It also gave his family breathing space to regain energy and also heal some of the trauma of the past few weeks and with the help of the incredible staff from domestics, HCSW, trained staff, Occupational therapists and consultant a plan was made for him with the amazing help of the addictions team.

He is now home with help and support from the Community services I am so grateful for the support if everyone.

Unfortunately addiction does still carry sigma and I just wanted to remind everyone dealing with these patients that with the correct help and support they can find a way forward and the support for their families is essential.

So thankyou to everyone who was involved in his care without your continued commitment to the service and to your patients the NHS would struggle to support this ongoing crisis.

Thankyou

Dear pegasusse59

Thank you so much for sharing your feedback here on Careopinion. It's really thoughtful for you to get in touch after going through such a difficult time.

I am so pleased to read your son has received the help he very much needed. This must have been such a relief for you and your family knowing your son was in good hands. I am also happy to read you have managed to have some rest too.

I wish you and your son all the very best

Thank you once again

Kind Regards

Lesley
