"Amazing staff but issues with pain management"

About: Daisy Hill Hospital / Maternity care Maternity care / Maternity Ward

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I came to Daisy Hill for my C-section which went really well. The team were awesome and helped me stay at ease throughout. Anaesthetist Tom in particular was excellent at helping to ease my anxieties, as did midwife Katie in theatre. However, the whole team was amazing.

All the girls on the ward have been really helpful from the midwives to the nursing assistants as well as the students. Rachel on last night was absolutely great with helping with my pain management.

The only issue I have encountered during my stay has been with pain management. There was a mishap during the day which resulted in a pain medication dosage being missed which made it quite difficult for me throughout the day. Just make sure staff are aware to review pain medication more thoroughly. If this hadn't have happened my stay would have been absolutely perfect.

Congratulations on the birth of your baby I hope you are enjoying these first few precious weeks. Thank you so much for talking the time to tell us about your experience here in Daisy Hill. I will ensure that all the staff that you have mentioned are aware of your lovely comments.

I am sorry that your pain relief was missed on an occasion during your stay. I will ensure that we reflect on this and try to do better when it comes to pain management.

Thank you again and I wish you and your family all the best for the future.

Hi just to update you on a few changes we have made in response to you message - to try and ensure that there are no delays on medication administration - we now ensure that the documentation we require to administer medications are sent to Pharmacy at certain times of the day and not close to times of regular analgesia. Staff are also aware to ask patients regarding pain relief regularly.
