My mum was admitted to RAC Downe Hospital by the GP after being discharged too early from the Ulster Hospital. The care and treatment she received was amazing , the staff were welcoming, friendly and showed great compassion. The sister should be very proud of her unit and staff as it is calm, comforting and everyone knew exactly what they were doing.
My mum was transferred to Ward 2 where she is being well looked after and treatment is ongoing. The staff on this ward are kind, considerate and to be able to speak to a doctor was in itself a relief which is more than I can say for the care on ward 5b at the Ulster hospital .
There I requested for 11 days to speak to a doctor. Unfortunately this did not happen and mum was discharged by the nurse last Friday night where again I asked to speak to a doctor and again the answer was I’m sorry they aren’t available.
My mum describes the doctor in the Ulster as dirty , wearing a dirty apron and dirty boots - I confirmed this with the nurse on duty. I cannot understand how this was allowed, never mind the fact mum was discharged from the Ulster remaining unwell. There are standards for both medical and nursing staff to follow and for all registered staff to allow this to continue is a disgrace and morally wrong. If anyone reads this a look back over my mothers 11 day stay in the Ulster would show significant failings in her care. I’m sorry to end on this note but I cannot let this go without documentation .
