I was called up for my usual cervical screening test, was told to expect my letter with results within 2 week's. I ended up getting a phonecall first from my doctor explaining that I had an abnormal result come back and to wait for another phone call and a letter from the hospital. Within a day I received a call from the hospital and a letter explaining that I was needed for a Colposcopy. The hospital got me in for an appointment the same week which I was both surprised about and relieved I wasn't waiting too long.
When It came to my appointment I was seen by Miss Kangeyan my gynaecologist consultant who explained to me exactly what was going on and what they needed to do. I was a high grade in terms of bad cells and close to it becoming cancerous cells and upon hearing this information I started to feel quite emotional. Miss Kangeyan and the two nurses Jen and Heather were all really kind and looked after me so well.
The Colposcopy procedure was explained to me fully and I was asked if I had any questions also. The nurses even offered twice to hold me hand as I had gone to the appointment one my own which I found was such a kind thing to ask me. I did refuse to hand holding but that does not make me any less grateful as I was and am very grateful for the gesture.
The nurses also kept me talking throughout the procedure asking me questions and they even asked if I wanted to see what was happening on the screen which I also decided against. I do however appreciate the offer as other women may find it helps them to see exactly what is happening.
I had a local anaesthetic and I can honestly say I did not feel a thing! Miss Kangeyan explained about the Loop (LLETZ) procedure and told me what aftercare I needed to do and provided me with a sheet of paper with more information on of me to take home and read to help reassure me what was happening to my body after the procedure was normal. I must have looked a little pale after the procedure as both the nurses Jen and Heather took me to a room next door to rest whilst and they even made me a cup of tea and gave me a biscuit which must have tasted the best ever as I was just so pleased it was all over.
I would just like to thank everyone from my initial screening nurse to the promptness of Public Health England Cervical Screening to my own doctor's to the kind administration lady who called me to arrange my appointment and finally to Miss Kangeyan and her nursing team who looked after me on the actual day. Once again I cannot thank them enough!
