I was referred under the 2 week cancer referral and was seen after 10 days. I was extremely anxious about this appointment and potential investigations that would be required. However, I need not have worried as everyone from the sonographer in radiology, the nurses in the gynae clinic, the consultant and finally the phlebotomy staff were superb. They were all kind, showed empathy and at no time was my dignity or privacy compromised during procedures.
My visit included a biopsy and this was rather uncomfortable to say the least. I had read information for patients from other hospitals suggesting taking ibuprofen or paracetamol before the appointment. My only observation would be that the patient information sent to me for hysyeroscopy/biopsy from Airedale did not include this advice. Nor did it include the information that you can choose to have this under a general anaesthetic if you feel you cannot go through this as an outpatient. Both issues are recommended as part of patient information by the RCOG in guidelines on hyteroscopy/biopsy.
This is an observation, not a complaint but I do recommend you update your patient information leaflet in line with recently updated RCOG guidelines.
It would also useful to remind patients that sonographers include both male and female staff. It would just help if you knew what to expect during what can be very embarrassing investigations.
But... my experience was superb and the hospital on that day ran an efficient patient centred service I couldn't fault in any way. Thank you.
