Our elderly mother was discharged from Good Hope hospital yesterday, following a two week stay being admitted by paramedics when she complained of breathlessness. As previous reviews have stated, communication between ourselves and the hospital were non existant. The telephone number was continually ringing out, with no answer or reassurance as to her condition. She did not receive any help with washing (she managed to get to the toilet on her own) and her ulcerated leg was unattended. A community nurse attends twice a week to her home and was incredulous that the ulcer was not dressed during her time in hospital. She ate very little and her water jug was not topped up for three days. We appreciate, as family, that you are still not allowing visitors, but we have regular LTF tests which were negative, so we could have assisted, if necessary, with personal care and feeding, which may have aided her recovery. She is a fit 97 year old lady with full mental capacity but was very distressed by the whole lack of compassion and medical care she experienced.
