"Impossible to contact "

I am someone who hardly ever attends the GP for anything, unless I really must - I have been trying to book an appointment for the last two weeks and every time I call I am put on hold with an automated response that tells me I am “caller number 15 in the queue” (it does make you wonder how there are always 15 people waiting, no matter what time of day I try calling). After about 45mins to an hour of staying on hold eventually I can’t stay on the line any longer and decide to try calling another day. For people that find it difficult to seek support in the first place this can be extremely dangerous as it prevents appropriately getting help when it’s most needed, especially those with mental health difficulties where this manner of wait in itself can contribute to exacerbating anxiety for example, but importantly the difficultly and barriers in getting through to anyone is extremely harmful and can be potentially dangerous, if as as result help is not sought out with tragic consequences.
