"The caring profession"

About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske)

I went into A and E after a blackout. Great ambulance staff and nursing staff.BUT one person told me I could never drive again, but when released there was no mention of DVLA or driving on the form.Years ago, it was usual that they wrote to DVLA and DVLA wrote to me. No letter arrived. I had a heart test but received no result. My doctor enquired what the situation was but they didn't reply to him. No response to an appeal by PALS. If you have a heart test you need the result! You can't tell people not to drive, you'll need tests and then brush it under the carpet for months. I've had to resign a job because of it. I have a severe asthma problem and I have to go up north to Shetland to get out of the pollen in April. I can't because I have no license, it is frightening.I feel trapped. I am trapped. The caring profession? All I did wrong was to get up quick from bed in the night and I now have all this trouble and stress for nothing which is making my asthma worse.

Dear Anonymous,

Thank you for taking the time to share your story with us, please accept my apologies for the delay in responding to you on here. I was saddened to read about your experience in the Emergency Department here at the Trust, not only was it a very worrying and frightening time for you, you have also lost your driving licence and had to resign from your job, both life changing events.

I can see that the communication from the department has not been to the standard that we would expect. I can see also that you have already contacted the Patient and Family Experience team (formally PALS) but have had no response, please accept my apologies for this. Please can I urge you to contact the team again using the details below - they will be able to follow this up for you.

Thank you again for taking the time to share your story with us, I am sorry that the experience you had was not a positive one.

Best wishes,

Laura Fletcher
