I am a retired man in my 60's. Went to local surgery to see a new GP, about this urinary infection. I had not met this GP before but was hopeful they could help.
I was hoping to get a positive reaction to my health concerns. The doctor prescribed me antibiotics which was fine, but seemed totally disinterested in that I had other health concerns. I did most of the talking thinking, that being positive & forthcoming was the best idea. I mentioned about my digestion problems & acid reflux and suggested that the urinary infection & my stomach problems could be linked. I also talked about the severe Scoliosis and the back pain I suffer from.
The reaction seemed cold and dismissive & off-hand, saying we should get the infection sorted out before moving on. There was silence for about 2 minutes and I felt ignored, I think they were writing out a prescription for the Antibiotics, so then I asked if that was all and they just said that it was, and no more. Politely I said a thank you and left, realizing later I had not got the prescription. I hadn't been told that paper prescriptions are no more and are now ordered directly by the Doctor, online with the Chemist. Luckily for me, my wife told me later.
I do realize doctors have limited time for consultations and a full workload and I was being seen for the first time, but this is no excuse. Little concern being shown, little empathy, and little patience.
