I’m just out of hospital after surgery for 2 broken arms and a shattered (in 8 pieces) elbow following a fall during a run. The staff in the hospital looking after me couldn’t do enough for me and really helped me through it.
They didn't just check I was breathing and give me pain relief... They done their best to make me comfortable, checked I was OK every time they passed my door (as well as 4 hourly regular checks for BP and heart rate), tried to make me laugh and we shared stories, changed my pain relief several times to get something that worked, got a Dr straight away when there was an issue with my hand, and I was actually told by one of the nurses at night, “that call button isn’t just for when you’re in pain… if you just want coffee and a biscuit make sure and call us, we’re here for you”.
Every single person from the girl who asked what I wanted for lunch to the nurses giving me morphine at 3am because I was in excruciating pain couldn’t have been nicer.
This was (fortunately) for me my first time having to stay in hospital and whilst I'm certainly not in a rush to repeat the process, I felt well looked after and genuinely cared for by everyone in the ward (Ward 33 Victoria hospital Kirkcaldy) and I can't thank the staff enough for their efforts.
