"Attending maternity assessment unit"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

I attended the crosshouse maternity unit late at night as I thought my waters were leaking.

The midwife I saw was very kind, took my blood pressure, dipped my urine and put me on the monitor. Then explained that the Dr was in theatre and I would need to wait to see them. My husband and I waited for over an hour which is completely understandable if the Dr is busy.

The Dr finally arrived, told me they didn’t need to hear my story as they had been filled in and that I would need a speculum examination. I went on the bed and the speculum was inserted, told me a swab was being taken and within a couple of seconds had removed everything. Then told me they couldn’t see any amniotic fluid and left.

Didn’t say goodbye, didn’t explain what would happen with the swab and didn’t even review my results from the baby monitor.

The midwife told me I was free to go and to keep an eye out for anymore fluid over the remaining days.

I was left feeling embarrassed and completely let down by the people I saw that night. I think the Dr could have taken another couple of minutes to explain things to me and I would have felt so let down.

I have also since looked at my notes and have noticed the midwife has reported blood in my urine on the badger baby app. I was not told about this at the time either.
