My mum was diagnosed with Bone and Liver Cancer in September 2021 and the prognosis was not good, she was told that she would have weeks or a couple of months at best. My mum never went home again! She was admitted to Kilbryde Hospice and I don't even know where to begin about how well the staff looked after not just my mum but our family too.
I was terrified when I heard the word Hospice but over the past few months I have realised that a hospice especially Kilbryde can be a positive and happy place. I would love to mention all the staff by name but I am afraid I may miss somebody. The chaplain, doctors, nurses, clinical support workers, chefs, cleaners, administration staff, reception and even the maintenance staff are to be commended in the job they do.
I spoke to one the nurses late at night and she told me that in any other profession in a hospital you are given a job and assigned a ward to do your job but in Kilbryde Hospice the staff make a choice to work there because they want to and that made me feel happy and glad that these phenomenal people were taking care of my mum in her final few months of life.
My mum shone in the hospice, she actually came alive for the first three months, she enjoyed the banter and the feeling of being cared and loved for in very exceptional circumstances. The staff looked after our family with care and dignity.
My mum had dignity in the Hospice, her wishes were first and foremost taken care of and she was treated with the upmost respect.
My mum died at the end of January 2022 and I cannot thank the staff for looking after her. I miss my Mum very much but I also miss the daily visiting to the hospice and I hope in the future i can volunteer to be part of this amazing team.
Thank you to everyone involved in Kilbryde Hospice and for taking care and loving my mum.
