"Caring and professional staff"

I have suffered from Barrett’s Oesophagus for many years and have received the best of care from the NHS.

During the recent pandemic all areas of health care have been put under great pressure and unfortunately my appointment to take biopsies to check my Barrett’s was missed. I did phone the admin staff regarding my appointment but with the COVID-19 pandemic being at a stage where it was more important to get your vaccine I didn’t chase my appointment up.

When I finally had my endoscopy and the biopsies taken they were found to be cancerous.

The care and attention given to me by my Endoscopist was so kind and professional that I cannot thank her enough, she did a great job of removing the surface cancer when taking the biopsies. I was then in the system to deal with the cancer, my first contact was with the Upper Nurse Specialist at Victoria Hospital Kirkcaldy. The care was excellent and I was kept well informed about what was happening and told I was being looked after by the best team ever.

On meeting members of my team after I had had my MRI scan in December I was given hope that the cancer could be dealt with. I was then sent for a PEP scan at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary to give the team more information regarding my cancer 

Then in February this year I attended Edinburgh again to meet my Consultant Endoscopist who was going to check out my stomach and oesophagus and hopefully remove the small area of cancer. I cannot say enough about this Consultant and his team, they were so professional kind and caring, and they did remove the small area of cancer.

With the small blip in the system missing my appointment to check my Barrett’s during hopefully the only Pandemic I experience in my lifetime I found the NHS to be fantastic with caring and very professional staff,I have nothing but praise
