"Invaluable breastfeeding support service"

About: Adult Health Services / Breastfeeding Support service

(as a service user),

After giving birth to my first baby and having an extremely tough time breastfeeding her due to multiple issues I contacted the infant feeding team at Wishaw General hospital (despite having given birth in a different hospital). Immediately I was given help and support both over the phone and in person. Every single member of the team was extremely supportive of my desire to continue breastfeeding despite the challenges and my need for support.

I was visited by Jacqueline who came to my house and provided invaluable support although my little one still couldn’t feed properly. We were eventually assessed for tongue tie and it turned out my baby had quite a severe tongue tie which had been missed by the hospital and a few midwifes. After her tongue tie was divided we still found feeding incredibly difficult so we had another visit from Jacqueline who massively helped us remedy the issues we had and finally we were able to successfully breastfeed.

Without the help of Jacqueline and the team we would absolutely have had to give up breastfeeding which I really didn’t want to do so I’m extremely grateful & think it’s important they know how invaluable they are. In a time where breastfeeding support is so hard to find without being advised to just give up and use formula, this service is absolutely essential to all Mums and should be treated as such. I honestly cannot thank the infant feeding team enough.

Dear July2021

Congratulations on the birth of your daughter. I hope you are settling into life as a new mum. I wanted to thank you for taking the time to provide feedback for our infant feeding team. They strive to deliver person centred compassionate care tailored to your need. Im sorry to read about the tongue tie and issues you had at the beginning but also delighted that you are successfully breastfeeding. I will pass on your feedback to Anne Marie Bruce, Infant feeding team lead, Jacqueline and all the team. Take care and thank you

Cheryl
