I spent 5 days on Ward G16 last week following colerectal surgery. During my stay I witnessed an excellent standard of patient care from the domestic staff up to the medical. I was particularly impressed by a male domestic on the ward who took such pride in his work to try and keep the ward clean and infection free.
Although the care was excellent the same cannot be said for the post surgery environment which was a ward that had been thrown together . There was no privacy, it was noisy and depressing to look at, not helpful for recovery. I appreciate that side rooms are used up with infectious patients however this does not allow for other patients to be treated as an individual in their needs for peace, quiet and privacy. Infact when I asked if I would be able to pay for a room I was almost laughed at. York Hospital I suggest you speculate to accumulate by turning those old wards into more single rooms that you could make an income from in the long run.
