We were referred to the Crisis team by school as my pre-teen Autistic daughter had been having suicidal thoughts at school which were getting stronger. We have been trying to get her support for 2 years and things getting worse.
The appointment was at Hopewood unit and she was seen alone. This was difficult as she later told me she had forgotten to tell them important information about how she was feeling.
They then called me in telling me she wouldn't get any help - they thought her problems were secondary to Autism and that her Autism meant she would get fixated on mental health in future! We were promised a phone call re potential bereavement counselling but this has not materialised yet. We were advised to lock tablets away. We left feeling unsupported and demoralised. School and the charities don't have the experience or resources to help so we are left ( like many families of Autistic children), in a "no man's land" whereby we have to struggle on, hoping that things don't get worse.
