"Unable to access Ambulance Transport"

About: Scottish Ambulance Service / Patient Transport Service

(as the patient),

I have been using ambulance transport for over 10 years to get to appointments, mainly for my MS treatment which takes place on a day ward.

I phoned to book transport and was advised I was no longer eligible. There was very little discussion on my mobility impairment and why I can't get to appointments without support.

I had mentioned I had previously got to more local appointments via taxi with support however this was well before Covid and in that time my mobility and balance have worsened. The person who went with me is no longer able to help me. The call handler didn't seem to care about that and  kept telling me to get a taxi at which point I hung up.

I struggle to get down the stairs in front of my house and can easily lose balance when walking even when using crutches. There is a 70 metre (at least) walk from the entrance to the hospital building to the ward which on bad days can be difficult for me.

Thank you for your Feedback. I would really like to have this matter looked into for you if I may? Please would it be possible for you to contact our team at sas.feedback @nhs.scot with your name, address and date of when you called to try to arrange transport?
