"A&E doctor Hairmyres"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Emergency Department

(as a service user),

I have a history of heart issues and high blood pressure plus angina. I also have STV and an irregular heart beat. I’m in my 50’s. Presented to A&E in April 2021 with angina, as advised by NHS direct. The duty A&E doctor was rude and dismissive towards me. They kept saying I wasn’t having a heart attack and I was wasting their time being at A&E. They also advised I was to stop taking my Beta blockers. 5 month later I took a heart attack and a stroke.

Dear Padster

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. I would like to apologise to you that you found the A&E doctor was dismissive and rude when you attended in April 2021. I am also sorry to hear that you have had both a heart attack and a stroke.

In order for staff to learn and reflect on their behaviour, I would like to discuss you’re experience with you and therefore ask you to phone patient affairs on 01355 585325.

I expect all staff to be courteous and professional at all times and again apologise if your experience was not to this standard.

I hope that you are recovering well and look forward to speaking to you.

Kind Regards

Lise
