"Paramedics helping my mum"

About: Northern Ireland Ambulance Service / Non-emergency control

(as a service user),

My mum has recently developed a form of dementia and having fallen 6 times over Christmas I called an ambulance on Monday morning.

They call centre operator was amazing, taking the time to talk slowly but being thorough and stayed on until they had a new emergency call.

The ambulance arrived much quicker than expected and again were calm and thorough. One stayed in the hallway talking to my sister and I, answering questions and gave practical advice about whether to travel to the hospital.

I can’t recall the names but think the lady was called Yvonne. Please pass on our thanks.

Dear cee42,

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your recent experience with us, in what I’m sure has been a worrying time for you, your mum and wider family. It is always a morale boost to hear our staff being described as ‘amazing’ and to hear how compassionate both the NIAS call taker and paramedics were towards you and your sister.

I would be delighted to pass your compliments on to the crew involved in caring for your mum, however I would require a few extra details to enable me to identify and locate them. If you would be prepared to discuss this further, please feel free to contact me on rebecca.smyth@nias.hscni.net.

I hope your mum is feeling better and wish her a speedy recovery.

Take care,

Rebecca
