"Unfair Visiting restrictions"

About: Gartnavel General Hospital / Elderly Medicine (wards 2a, 2b, 2c, 3a, 3c, 4c, 5c, 6a, 8a & 8c)

(as a service user),

We are not allowed to visit an elderly family member who is sick in Gartnavel Hospital on elderly ward 3c. This is having a detrimental affect on the patient and severely affecting their recovery.  We consider this to be cruel to the patient and the family.

Dear Downhillafterthyroidectomy

Thank you for getting in touch.

Unfortunately, we have had to restrict visiting to ‘essential visitors’. This decision was made by senior medical, nursing, and Infection Prevention and Control teams.

We understand the vital support that family and friends provide to our patients and we are sorry for how this will affect patients and their families. However, we need to carefully balance this with the additional potential risks to patients, family members and staff that visiting brings. We will regularly review our visiting arrangements. You can find up to date information on visiting on our website: NHSGGC: COVID-19 - Hospital visiting restrictions now in place

During these restrictions, we want our patients and families to keep in touch. Therefore, we have a person Centred Virtual Visiting Service. All wards have iPads specially set up to allow 'virtual visits' (video call) allowing patients to see and talk to the people who matter to them using FaceTime, Skype or Zoom. For more information please go to: NHSGGC: Person Centred Virtual Visiting

If you would like to discuss this further can you please contact my colleague, Vivienne Davidson, Lead Nurse on: 07929847677.

Kind Regards

Nicole

Thanks we weren’t allowed an essential visitor either despite the delirium etc that the patient has. Perhaps due to a covid outbreak as I believe it’s is changing again. iPads aren’t ideal when the patient isn’t familiar and there is no nurse around to help but at least it’s something. Maybe iPad stands would help quality.
