I had a telephone appointment with the epilepsy nurse for a periodic review. I have had a few of these, with some different experiences. One was very good because I felt treated as an individual and felt an equal in discussions with the nurse about medication options with a joint decision. This one wasn't so good or personalised. It felt like the nurse was quickly running through a generic script with no consideration of me as an individual. In particular, I raised that epilepsy seizures had had a negative impact on my memory and asked if there was anything I could do improve my memory. I was told (and this was included in the subsequent letter to my GP) that I should do more reading and play some puzzles. I found this patronising, I am constantly using my brain taking in and analysing complex information in my job, so I don't think doing a few jigsaws will help me! There was no enquiry into what I currently do, just this generic answer which isn't really applicable to me, considering I do more than this already. I have since carried out my own information search to get more helpful and comprehensive advice.
