"Professional aftercare following knee replacement"

About: Phl Out of Hours Ltd South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust / Emergency ambulance Southampton General Hospital / Accident and emergency Southampton General Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I had a replacement knee procedure in early December at Southampton Royal.  All the the staff from cleaners, catering, through to surgeon, doctors and all level of nurses were just so remarkably fantastic I do not have the words to say thank you.

However, upon my discharge on the following Friday I got up on the Saturday morning with blood oozing out of the bandages.  After 'phoning every one I could think of I was put in touch with Doctors on call.  A gentleman rang and advised that they were local and that someone would be with me shortly. The Doctor arrived and suspected I might have contracted something in the wound. He called and called and called, but being Saturday he was sent from pillar to post. In the end he was told I would be admitted to the trauma unit at Southampton General, and he then organised an ambulance.

The doctor, before he went, told me to take 2 paracetamols.  At the  trauma unit they changed the dressing and said there was nothing suspicious and two of the 'clips' had come loose, and Doctor Bailey put 3 new clips in. And again, just the most professional care and attention to detail.  Thank you to the two ambulance crews from Winchester and Basingstoke and staff involved.
